Hello to all from western TN once again. Hope your hunting has been going
better than ours this month. Lots of hot dry weather has been plaguing us here.
We are about fourteen inches behind on our rainfall and are under an official
drought. Mostly everything we are treeing right now are pop ups and I haven’t
heard a good chase in a month now. We did get a few small showers this month
that really helped, but not nearly enough. My thoughts are with our neighbors
out in TX who have been getting all the flooding. Looks like a mess out there.
Flooding in some parts, droughts in others. Weather is sure unpredictable.
The 3rd Annual TWB&FA Youth Extravaganza was held in Wyatt IN
and hosted by the Wyatt Conservation and Coon Hunters Club. The Youth Hunt had a
total of 78 dogs entered into the Show and Hunt this year. In addition to the
Show and Hunt there was also a treeing contest held. Director Randy Riggs gave a
Bench Show Seminar that drew lots of the youth interest. Our congratulations to
GRCH Codys Treepicking Black Cloud a beautiful Treeing Walker owned and handled
by Alexa Heiser of IN who took home King of Show and Grand Champion Male.
Congradulations also to CCH CRCH Black Knights Shadow Seekers a beautiful Black
and Tan owned by Deborah Crump of IN who took home Queen of Show and Grand
Champion Female. Shadow was also handled by Alexa Heiser. In the Nite Hunt your
1st Place winner went to 13 year old Davis Stevens who handled NTCH
Rocky Ridge Buddy. Congratulations to all the youth who took part in the Show
and Hunt. All were winners and I don’t think a single youth left without a
prize. The TWB&FA would like to thank all of the sponsors and also the
breeders for all of your kind donations towards the youth. They truly are the
future of our sport. Congratulations also to all the youth who took part in the
5th Annual Kids World Hunt. 5 of the top 10 places went to the
treeing walkers. Congratulations to all the youth who participate in the
events.
If you would like to join the TWB&FA, or renew a membership, you will
need to contact the Walker Association Chairman Mr. Larry Hawke. Dues are $20.00
per year that runs from Jan. 1st through Dec. 31st. Larry
can be reached by telephone at 419-994-4563 or you can write him at Larry Hawke
- 520B C.R.2575 - Loudonville, Ohio 44842. Please ask Larry about the family
membership while speaking with him. Your children under 16 years of age will be
covered with their own membership card so they do not have to borrow dad’s or
mom’s to attend a Sectional. You may also get a new membership or renewal at a
Walker Sectional also. To host a Walker Sectional please contact Whitey
Marshall. Whitey can be reached at 606-474-4031 or you may mail him at Whitey
Marshall - 2483 St. Hwy. 1122 - Grayson, KY. 41143. He can get to you all the
necessary information you will need.
This month would have been my Dad’s 67th birthday. Dad died from
cancer 2 years ago and that empty spot still hasn’t been filled. I sure do miss
dad’s wit and humor. When I was a child we owned a little ‘mom and pop’ country
store. Someone would come in and ask Mr. Amos could you give me a fried chicken
leg if Ms. Linda has one cooked up. Dad would reply sure do you want the left or
right one? We all miss you Dad. In closing this month, I am saddened to report
that GRNTCH Rock River Blister has passed on. Blister was owned by Monte Gusse
of IL. Our hearts are with you Monte I know everyone sure thought a lot of him.
If you have some walker news please call, write, or email me. I enjoy the calls
and letters I get from everyone all over the country. Till next time, hug your
family and tell them you love them. See you in the timber.
