Breeders Cup Challenge — What is it? The Challenge is a hunt for pups, hosted by the Treeing Walker Breeders and Fanciers Association. The purpose of this event is to recognize excellence, maintain integrity and increase membership in the association. The TWB&FA is making every effort to ensure the event is enjoyable, administered fairly and provides the largest purse possible to the participants. Eligibility Requirements— 1. Nomination - Through Litter or Single Dog Nomination 2. UKC Permanent Registration 3. DNA on Challenge pup 4. TWB&FA Membership 5. Entry Fee 1. Nomination—There are two ways to nominate a pup; through litter nomination or single dog nomination. a. Litter Nomination—The owner of any given litter may nominate an entire litter. Litter must be nominated by 4 months of age. Fee: $25 Note: The sire and litter owners of a litter nominated dog will be eligible for a portion of the fund payout. b. Permanent Nomination—To permanently nominate a pup from a nominated litter a one-time nomination fee is required, depending on the age of the dog. 0-6 months of age $50 one-time fee 6-12 months of age $100 one-time fee 12-18 months of age $200 one-time fee 18-24 months of age $400 one-time fee c. Single Dog Nomination—Single nomination gives the owner of a dog an opportunity to nominate a pup that has not been litter nominated. To single nominate a pup a one-time nomination fee is required, depending on the age of the dog. 0-6 months of age $75 one-time fee 6-12 months of age $125 one-time fee 12-18 months of age $225 one-time fee 18-24 months of age $425 one-time fee Note: A dog cannot be over 24 months of age by October 1, 2007. All nomination requirements must also be met by this date. 2. UKC Permanent Registration—The nominated Challenge pup, and the sire and the dam of the pup, must be permanently registered with UKC. 3. DNA—The pup must be DNA Profiled and on record with UKC by September 15, 2007. The certification program is available for dogs currently profiled through MMI Genomics. Winning pups will be randomly DNA swabbed at the Challenge event. Call Cindy Stickley at UKC toll free at 1-888-548-7362 for more information about DNA. 4. TWB&FA Membership—Owners of the sire, dam and the nominated Challenge pup and the handler of the Challenge pup, must all be members in good standing. If membership is not current, fund money will NOT be paid. Membership to TWB&FA may be obtained by sending $20 to Larry Hawke, 520B County Road 2575, Loudonville, OH 44842, (419) 994-4563. 5. Entry Fee—There are two ways to pay an entry fee. a. Advanced Entry Fee—The advanced entry fee for the Challenge event is $125 and is not included in the one-time nomination fee. The advanced entry deadline is September 15, 2007. b. Day of Hunt Entry Fee—Day of hunt entry fee will be $200. 6. Hunt Rules—Non-Hunting Judges will be used, if available. a. The Draw—All Registered, Nite Champion and Grand Nite Champion pups will be drawn out and cast together. b. Honor Rules—The UKC Official Nite Hunt Honor Rules are in effect at the time of the Challenge event as they pertain to Registered Hunt Rules. c. Hunt Time—Pups must hunt the complete 2 hours each night. d. To Advance—Any participating pup that is not scratched or withdrawn during the first night of the event will advance to the second night. e. Scratched—If the pup is scratched for any reason, the pup is ineligible for advancement or placement. 7. Determining Winners—There will be 10 winners. The highest scoring double cast winner with cumulative scores from both nights will be considered the first place pup, the second highest the second, etc. If not enough double cast winners to complete 10 places, single cast winners with cumulative scores from both nights will be used to complete the placement provided the pup did not scratch. If still not enough single cast winners to complete the 10 places, the highest combined plus point scores from both nights will be used, provided the pup did not scratch. If still not enough to complete 10 places, pups that did not scratch with the least number of minus points will be considered. 8. Trophies—Top placing winner will receive an individual trophy. Another trophy will remain with TWB&FA. Each year the winning pup, owner and handler’s names will be added to this perpetual trophy. 9. The Purse—The purse will consist of monies received from nominations, entry fees and donations, less administrative fees. Funds will be dispersed by check to the winners on the final night of the Challenge event. How the Purse is Divided 1st Place 25% 6th Place 7% 2nd Place 19% 7th Place 6% 3rd Place 12% 8th Place 5% 4th Place 10% 9th Place 4% 5th Place 8% 10th Place 4% Note: A total of $1,500 will be taken from the fund to pay out sire and litter owner monies. This money will be used to pay the sire and litter owners, on record at UKC at the time of breeding, of the top four placing, litter nominated dogs of the top ten. Monies will be equally split between all eight individuals eligible. 10. Grace Period—A 15-day grace period will be allowed on all deadlines, except advanced entry. 11. Refunds—There are only two reasons refunds will be considered. a. Deceased Dog—In the case that a dog should die, the entry fee will be refunded at the owner’s request. It will be required that the UKC registration certificate is turned in to UKC, marked deceased, at the time the written request for a refund is received. b. Female in Season— If a female should come in season and is not able to hunt in the Challenge event, the entry fee will be refunded at the owner’s request. A note from a veterinarian, on their letterhead, confirming the female’s condition, will be required and should accompany the written request for a refund. 12. Age Eligibility—The Challenge pup cannot be over 24 months of age by October 1, 2007. Age will be governed by UKC’s registration records. 14. If Pup is Sold—If the pup has been nominated into the program, only the entry fee will need to be paid to make the pup eligible for the Challenge event. If the pup has not been nominated, the new owner of the dog may nominate the pup based on the nomination eligibility and the age of the dog at the time of the nomination. 15. Misconduct & Barrings—Owners or handlers can be scratched from the Challenge due to any of the following: 1) falsification of scorecard; 2) threatening or intimidating a hunter, guide, Judge, Master of Hounds or any TWB&FA or UKC official; 3) any violation of Challenge or hunt rules will result in being barred from participation in any TWB&FA event, including Sectionals, until reinstatement is approved by the TWB&FA Board of Directors. Reinstatement will be considered at the Fall TWB&FA meeting, if requested. Request for reinstatement will be considered one year after the offense. 16. Barred Individuals—Any individual barred from UKC or the TWB&FA will not be eligible to participate in the Breeders Cup Challenge. 17. Championship Points—No UKC Championship Points will be awarded for this event. The Challenge is not licensed by the United Kennel Club, Inc.
